This one-day course will recertify individuals currently holding ILEA certification as a firearms instructor; upon successful course completion, certified firearms instructor status will be renewed until 12/31/2027.
Items on the course agenda include:
- Handgun requalification
- Shotgun requalification
- Written exam
- Use of force law update, if applicable
- Introduction to new training material and resources
- Coaching practice and observation
Note that this is a full day of training; with the exception of the lunch break, please plan to be at the range until approx. 1630 hours.
Recertifying instructors will be required to score at least 90% on both the ILEA Marksmanship Qualification Course and the ILEA Shotgun Qualification Course. Visit https://ilea.iowa.gov and click “Firearms Course of Fire” under the “Training” menu to find the current required courses of fire and target information.
Equipment Needed:
- Range clothing appropriate for the weather conditions
- Eye and ear protection
- Ball cap
- Body armor
- Duty handgun
- Duty shotgun
- Duty belt
500 rounds of handgun ammunition, 10 rounds of 00 buckshot, and 25 slugs. Practice ammunition only – duty ammunition is not required. Sunscreen, insect repellant, and water/hydration are highly recommended.
