Minimum Requirements: 
18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Color vision 20/100 in each eye correctable to 20/20.
Citizen of the United States.
Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license  upon date of hire. 
Be of good moral character and have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude, or domestic violence.  
Must live within 20 miles of Storm Lake City Hall no later than 6 months after date of hire.

Officer Benefits:
**New Increased Wage Rates**

Pay range for patrol officer FY2025 $66,109 to $84,302 plus incentives.  

Starting pay rates are based on law enforcement certification and years of service.  $5,000 sign on bonus for Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Certified applicants.

Additional hourly add pay incentives for all hours worked for the following:

$0.50 Associates degree, $1.00 Bachelors degree, $1.50 Masters Degree, $1.00 Bi-lingual, $1.25 Detective, $1.00 Field Training Officer, $0.25 Drug Recognition Expert, $0.25 Sexual Assault Response Team, $0.25 Tactical Team, $3.00 K-9.

Work Schedule – Patrol Officers work a 12 hour shift (6AM – 6PM or 6PM to 6AM), working 7 days every two weeks with every other weekend (FRI, SAT, SUN) off.
