Make A Difference as a Linn County Deputy Sheriff

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is the second largest sheriff’s office in Iowa. We are a full-service law enforcement agency that operates seven areas of public service, including the Patrol, Criminal (Detective), Communications, General Services, Finance, Civil, and Correctional Center Divisions. We also have several specialty units, including Accident Investigations, Drone Team, K-9 Unit, Mobile Field Force Team, Rescue 57, and Special Response Team.

We are accepting Deputy Sheriff applications online until Sunday, October 19, 2025. Applicants must also attend the Linn County Civil Service Commission physical fitness and written exam at 8:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Coe College-Clark Racquet Center, 400 College Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, IA.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has a lateral transfer program for certified law enforcement peace officers. This program includes a $10,000 structured incentive and a starting salary based on years of service as a certified peace officer. The starting hourly wage is $35.20.
