Public Safety Telecommunicator – FULL TIME
The City of Clear Lake is seeking qualified applicants for employment as full-time public safety telecommunicators dispatching for the city’s emergency services. Applicants must have a professional mindset, be able to multitask and problem solve in a fast-paced technical environment, and be able to become proficient in working on various public safety computer systems.
Applicants must:
· Be adaptable to change in technology and be able to work with a variety of computer systems, phone systems, and applicable software
· Be able to work all shifts; Days, Afternoons, Nights, Weekends, Holidays
· Possess a valid driver’s license
· Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
· Pass a background check
· Be at least 18 years of age
· Have great customer service skills
· Be able to effectively communicate in person, over the phone, radio, and email
· Be able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute and possess good writing and spelling skills
· Be able to multitask in a fast-paced technical environment
· Be able to perform duties outlined in the Dispatch Position Description for Public Safety Telecommunicators and comply with all city policies and procedures
· Be a U.S. citizen
Selected applicants are required to participate in an interview, typing test, observation time, and comprehensive background investigation.
Starting hourly rates range between $22.37 and $30.17 an hour, with an increase occurring on July 1, 2025, with past experience credited toward pay scale placement. The city also offers a generous benefit package for employees, including no cost health insurance, and city contributions to employee HSA account.
