
Anamosa Police Department
The Anamosa Police Department is currently accepting applications for a certified peace officer for
the role of School Resource Officer (SRO). The SRO will be an employee of the City of Anamosa
and will work collaboratively with the Anamosa School District to provide safety, security, training,
and education for students and staff. The SRO will also work to enhance students’ access to
resources in our community.
Requirements/Qualifications
• U.S. Citizen and resident of Iowa (upon being employed)
• At least 18 years of age (at the time of appointment)
• Hold a valid Iowa driver’s license
• Must not be addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and pass a drug screen test
• Be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation (No felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to perform duties with minimal direct supervision
• Experience working with youth
• High school graduate or GED (College degree preferred, but not required)
• Have uncorrected vision of not less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20, and color vision consistent with the occupational demands of law enforcement.
• Have normal hearing in each ear (hearing aids are acceptable if a candidate can demonstrate sufficient hearing proficiency to perform all necessary duties of a law enforcement officer)
• Be examined by a physician and meet the physical requirements necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer
• Undergo psychological testing (MMPI-2)
• Currently a certified peace officer in the State of Iowa and in good standing
• Minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience
• National Association of School Resource Officer Basic SRO Course completion (or similar
training) preferred but not required
• DARE instructor training preferred but not required
• Willingness to train in and utilize restorative justice practices, de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and diversion tactics
Responsibilities
• Serve as a liaison between the police department, the school district, and local social service agencies
• Respond to emergencies and calls for service in the schools and on district property
• Promote an atmosphere of safety, security, and respect
• Serve as a role model, informal counselor, and mentor to students
• Provide training and educational offerings to students and staff on topics like DARE, Active Threats, Stop the Bleed, cyber safety, etc.
• Assist with Emergency Drills and Emergency Planning
• Perform security audits of District property to enhance safety
Benefits/Schedule
• Flexible schedule during the school year
• Hours each day may vary and are based on Anamosa School District daily class schedule and extracurricular activities
• Total hours will be 84 hours every two week pay period
• Regular Patrol schedule when school is not in session includes 12-hour shifts (7 shifts every two weeks for a total of 84 hours) and every other weekend off as a 3-day weekend

• Shift differential for hours worked between 6pm and 6am
Under the current collective bargaining agreement, as of July 1, 2025, the starting salary for a new hire certified police officer applicant will be $32.11/hour or $70,128.24/year. Top out pay (5 years of service) is currently $36.83/ hour or $80,436.72/year.
