NOTICE: THE PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL IS THE FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL

This one-week school, instructed by Academy staff, will provide Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certification as a rifle instructor and will give graduates the skills to establish and operate a departmental rifle program. Topics to be covered will include: history of the law enforcement rifle, nomenclature, disassembly/assembly, weapons maintenance, weapons safety, principles of rifle marksmanship, familiarization with various law enforcement open sight rifles, range management, course design, instructor development, use of force and vicarious liability, ammunition, ballistics, diagnosis of shooter induced problems and coaching techniques, drills and exercises for qualification on the FBI/ILEA Open Sight Rifle Instructor qualification course. Class size will be limited to thirty certified Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Firearms Instructors who are able to proficiently fire this rifle system.

PLEASE NOTE: This class operates on a wait list with registrants chosen by the instructor. Signing up for this school does NOT guarantee you a spot until you receive a registration approved email. As per the updated Iowa Code, all ILEA Instructors must have a minimum of 3 years working as a certified officer before attending an Instructor school. If you do not meet these new minimum requirements, your registration will not be approved.

This will provide a valid certification for three years, expiring 12/31/2025.

Equipment Needed: Law enforcement duty rifle with iron sights, preferably with a sling and at least two-20 round magazines; 1,500 rounds of rifle ammunition; range clothing, rain gear, spotting scope or binoculars recommended; duty handgun and leather gear plus 100 rounds of handgun ammunition.

Please note that meals are not provided at the Academy.

Agency will be billed after the school. ILEA does not accept pre-payment at this time.
