Human Trafficking:
This is an information based session and discussion for outreach and education efforts for law enforcement agencies hosted at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The Iowa Law Enforcement Academy will offer education and tools to the law-enforcement field at no cost, so those who provide services have the skills to not only investigate these crimes, but also how to investigate with a trauma-Informed mindset.
The course will cover the basics of human trafficking, overview of adult and child sex trafficking, labor trafficking, latest statistics, current cases and dispositions, law changes, recognizing and responding to human trafficking, and trauma-informed interviewing techniques.
Implicit Bias:
This course is meant to meet the training requirement for the new Iowa Law (H.F) 2647.
By attending this training you will receive :
- an understanding and respect for diverse communities and for effective, non-combative methods of carrying out your L.E. duties in these communities.
- an examination of patterns, practices and protocols that cause bias in law enforcement actions and the tools to prevent such actions
- instruction on implicit bias and the negative impact of bias, whether intentional or implicit, on effective law enforcement and thoughtful insight into the historical perceptions of profiling on community relations
